Building an income from home is a dream many people have. It was the dream which prompted me to build my first home business many years ago.
It was a lawncare business I started from scratch using some old equipment I had at home, coupled with a little imagination and a lot of hard work in the summer heat.
Of course an easier way to build a second income from home is by doing it online. No sweating in the summer heat. No need to even leave the house if you don’t want to.
But, how can you build a business online and bring it into profit in 2024?
This is a question I will be answering through the course of this article.
My First Online Business Was Built On Luck
My first online business was built in late 2011, founded mostly on luck and good timing.
It was at the end of the lawncare season during the fall, and I was desperate to learn how to build another income stream from home and do it completely online.
My wife and I had a previous background in ministry and helping people in personal matters, so we considered doing an online coaching service focused on spirituality and matters of the heart.
We found a niche site which fit my wife’s skill set beautifully. A Spanish language love and relationships coaching platform which attracted a lot of Latina women with serious guy problems.
She started making money her very first day on the platform.
But this success was built almost entirely on luck.
We really had no idea how to promote an online business and keep it growing. Nor did I understand anything about Search Engine Optimization or any other facet of online business.
Looking back I can see I was shooting 100% into the dark.
We just tried the right thing at the right time and had a hit right out of the gate. Not a common occurrence in the online business space.
We were lucky. But, with some training, you don’t have to be.
So now, how can you build a business online and make money in 2024 without depending on luck?
There is a more reliable route; one that can be taught to anyone with an honest desire to learn and prosper.
A way I will discuss at length below.
How You Can Build A Business With Skill (Not Luck)
There is a way in which anyone can make money online, from home or anywhere else.
A way that can be taught which is built on skills and mindset, not luck.
And these skills can be learned by anyone regardless of previous background or experience.
This path forward is through an industry known as Affiliate Marketing.
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate Marketing is a form of online sales in which you promote other people’s products or services and earn a commission from the sales you make.
No need to create products or services yourself. Just find a good offer with an honest affiliate plan attached to it and go out and make sales.
And while the concept of Affiliate Marketing may sound simple, it isn’t as easy as one might think.
There are some tricks to the trade which one must master if one wants to prosper.
Common Problems (and Solutions) In Affiliate Marketing
One big problem people encounter in affiliate marketing is that of finding the right things to promote.
Many will make the mistake of finding low value, low commission products to promote; products which often pay only one time commissions rather than recurring monthly commissions.
This is what I call “one and done” marketing. You make one sale, get paid a single commission, and that’s it. You’re done.
If you want to earn more money from the same customer, you have to promote something else to that customer.
This can cause people to burn out in affiliate marketing because it seems like they put an awful lot of work into making one sale (often resulting in only a small commission) and then they have to put even more work into making another sale.
A solution to this problem is to promote offers which pay Recurring Monthly Commissions.
The Game Changing Beauty of Recurring Commissions.
With recurring commissions a person earns after making their initial sale, but can then continue to earn more commissions month after month providing their prospect remains a paying customer.
Recurring commissions can be found in affiliate programs which promote subscription services, monthly membership sites and things like that.
The beauty of recurring commissions is that it allows a person to build passive income over time, rather than working day after day for a single sale.
You put some work into finding your first customers (active income) but then, once the customers join and are satisfied with the program, you can continue to earn passively month after month for as long as your customers remain active.
Your cellular phone service is one example of this.
The company you are with put a little bit of time into attracting you as a customer. But, after you signed on, the company continues to earn money from you every month you continue to pay for their services.
Beginners in affiliate marketing often do not know to look for subscription or membership offers to promote, and so they waste their time selling one time offers earning low one time commissions.
More experienced marketers will know how to find valuable subscription offers that their customers will enjoy, and avoid the trap of one and done marketing.
The Low Commission Trap
Another problem beginning affiliate marketers face is that of earning low commissions.
Many newbie marketers will sign up for an Amazon account and try to make a few dollars doing affiliate marketing that way.
But, they later discover most of those offers pay only a small commission rate.
Doing this a person could make a sale of a few hundred dollars, and yet only earn a couple of bucks in commission. I did this a few years ago and was very disappointed.
A solution to this problem is to look for programs that pay large commissions and pay them on a recurring basis.
Don’t waste your time with 1, 2 or 3% commissions. Look for much higher!
Another Problem: Where Do I Find Buyers?
Yet another problem beginners in affiliate marketing face is that of finding potential buyers for their offers.
Where do you go to find the right people?
To solve this some will buy traffic from low quality sources, or take a stab at social media marketing without really knowing what the heck they are doing.
This can result in spending a lot of money for cheap leads that just don’t convert…and spending time in Facebook Jail for spamming their offers to the wrong people in the wrong way.
A few experiences like these can sour the beginning marketer on the industry.
But there is a better way.

But, if you are only at the Funnel Builder Level and someone you refer decides to join at the Premium Level, then you would not earn a commission from that sale.
However the system will send you an email letting you know about the sale and allow you some time to join at the appropriate level so that you can avoid missing that commission.
